About the artist
Zac Xiao
Zac Xiao’s creative work spans the fields of calligraphy and architecture, blending the two into a unique form of artistic expression.
His calligraphy represents a profound understanding and love for traditional Chinese culture. Calligraphy is an art form he began exploring in his childhood, serving as both an aesthetic experience and the starting point for his appreciation of Chinese cultural heritage. Even as an adult, he remains immersed in the world of calligraphy, continuously exploring and challenging the boundaries of tradition. For him, calligraphy is not just an art form, but also a way of life and an expression of emotions.
On the other hand, Zac Xiao is also an architect. He began studying architecture in university and gradually deepened his understanding of space, texture, discourse, and historical context. This ignited his passion for architectural design, and he came to see architecture as an art form in its own right.
His work explores the connection between architecture and ink painting. By abandoning preconceived notions, he reconstructs space in a way that mirrors the fluid and powerful brushstrokes in calligraphy. He combines the free flow of ink with the structural elements of architecture, creating unique artworks that are rooted in tradition yet radiate modern innovation.
Zac Xiao’s art is a tribute to both traditional Chinese culture and modern architecture, as well as a dialogue between different artistic realms. His work inspires us to contemplate the relationship between tradition and modernity, space and form, while also providing us with a deep artistic experience. In his own distinctive way, he challenges the boundaries of art, merging calligraphy and architecture into a beautiful and unique form of expression, leading us into his creative world.
