About the artist
Kevin Tseng
Kevin Tseng uses oil painting and watercolor to express the local culture and customs of Taiwan. Instead of soft brushes, he employs sturdy palette knives, layering thick and vibrant oil paints. He incorporates the blending techniques of gongbi painting, ingeniously fusing two seemingly unrelated media to create a novel form of expression.
From 2021, due to the impact of the pandemic, his creative direction underwent a significant change. The fragility and impermanence of life suddenly seemed to come very close to us. The continuation and cherishing of emotions gradually became evident in his works. He began focusing on themes of mother-child and father-child affection among animals, projecting these onto human emotional connections.
The delicate layering of paint highlights light, shadow, and texture, while the rich color combinations imbue the paintings with a wild vitality. His artworks now emphasize the continuation and preciousness of emotional bonds, reflecting the closer proximity we've felt to life's fragility and unpredictability in recent times.
Kevin Tseng's works are not just images on a canvas; they are an expression of emotion. He combines his feelings with his brush, using the language of art to convey the depth and richness of life. His paintings serve as a window, allowing viewers to gain a deeper understanding of the diversity of the world and the continuity of emotions.
